Green Trail - 04/16/09

Finally got a chance to go back out to the environmental center and see how spring's progressing out there.  Lots of green, above and below, lots of bird song.  Not many insects as yet.  The ground's still squelchy in spots.

I saw:

• Blooming trees
• Bluebells
• Mayapples
• Small yellow and white flowers
• Over 30 turtles sunning themselves on logs and swimming in a pond
• At least five red-winged blackbirds, perched on the tips of twigs and cattails, swaying as they sang
• Fish swimming
• Teasels backlit by the afternoon sun

I heard:

• The liquid gurgles of singing blackbirds
• The whir of the wind generator
• The rasping breath of a dog pulling too hard on its leash
• The splash of turtles sliding into the water

I felt:

• Quietly happy
