An Unsilly Quiz

If you're thinking of voting Democratic this year, you might want to take the time to take this quiz. (Heck, even if you're not, it's worth looking at.) It provides the candidates' positions anonymously on fourteen topic areas, and, when you've finished selecting those with which you most agree, shows how the candidates stack up. I wasn't surprised to see that I agreed with Kucinich and Kerry on several points, was surprised to see that my agreement with Clark (on different topics) was just as strong, and am disturbed to discover that I agree with Lieberman on domestic security. Edwards and Dean made my list too.

Most of the positions are variations on a theme, but sometimes real differences in approach and depth of thought stand out.

It's too bad the quiz doesn't take into account how similar some candidates' positions are - I didn't match up with Edwards at all, but he's on my short list for the primary, since he's only one or two steps away from ideal on a lot of things.

I also need a tool to help me decide if I'd rather vote for Joe Lieberman or a rutting moose.

I'd vote for the moose. :)

(Is it just me, or does Lieberman bear an uncanny resemblance to a frog? Or am I just too rano-centric for my own good?)

Yeah, I noticed the similar-positions problem, too. What I was _hoping_ for was a more nuanced list -- sort of along the lines of "Your position on x matches 50% with Clark, 75% with Edwards, 12% with Lieberman..." -- kinda like the "what religion are you" quiz on BeliefNet.
